Confidence in the Lord: Psalm 27:1-3

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.

Today’s message is encouraging us to have confidence in the Lord because of who He is and His sovereign powers. We fear only God and we are careful of evil men.

If the question is raised, why must we have confidence in the Lord whom we cannot see, but man we do see? We are to have confidence in the Lord because He has proven Himself to be trustworthy and faithful to His promises. We have confidence in the Lord because He is the creator and sustainer of all, which includes all humanity, evil and good men. Evil men are under God’s control and in God’s time He will bring evil men’s deeds to an end; therefore, trust God and never doubt Him. When God says, I will take care of you, trust Him. Cast all of our cares upon Him, and leave them with Him (Psalm 55:22, 1 Peter 5:7). More importantly, God did not give us a spirit of fear; He gave us power through the Holy Spirit, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7 partial paraphrased).

Fear only God, and trust Him for your deliverance.
